Just a few weeks ago, my family found itself in a flea situation. No, not our home (THANK GOD!), but at a farm we visited momentarily. It just so happens that the kids were off running around (as kids do), my husband was standing around talking (as husbands do), and I was walking around wearing baby (as I do). I decided to give my feet a rest and sit down. Upon resting on this said chair, I look down at my pants to see small black dots that I automatically assumed to be gnats, but upon further inspection (because there were too many for my comfort) realized they were FLEAS!

Ugh!

Inside, my head was exploding, but by the grace of God, I was able to remain calm and keep my composure on the outside.

I walked over to my husband to tell him, but he didn’t really pay attention because well, what do I know, right? So, I enlisted the help of my daughter, whom I also found to have some on her clothes as well, and we began to pick all the fleas that we could find off of each other, drowning them in a cup of water. When we could no longer find any more fleas on each other, I walked over to my husband and showed him what I was talking about.

Now, apparently, I was worth listening to!

He agreed it was time to high-tail it outta there! I checked my husband and son over thoroughly and lo-and-behold…

my son was the only one out of us all that did not have a single flea anywhere!

Why? Well, one word – TerraShield!

No, I did not know beforehand that we would be in a flea situation. It just so happens that moments before we all decided to tag along and join my husband on this quick trip of his, I had applied TerraShield all over my son because he was playing outside our home and I didn’t want him getting bit by mosquitos. Well, not only did he not get bit, he also successfully deterred the fleas!

We all went home, bathed thoroughly, and all our clothes, socks, shoes were given a nice, long soak.

I am now in love with this product! This is what I grab for bug repellant. Unless, I plan to immerse my family in the middle of the rainforest, I’d rather stray from the nasty chemicals of conventional bug sprays and opt for something natural like TerraShield.

I highly recommend it. It comes in a little 30 mL spray bottle, already diluted, but I actually dilute it further. It is so strong for me and my family that I actually add more fractionated coconut oil to it to dilute further. You can add another oil of your preference (rose oil, olive oil, hemp oil, avocado oil, all good for your skin!), but I just find it easier to just go with doTerra’s Fractionated Coconut Oil. Although a bit strong in smell, it doesn’t smell bad. It has a strong ‘woody’ aroma. Before even reading the ingredients, I knew it had to contain Cedarwood oil and I was right! I actually like the smell because it reminds me of the Appalachian mountains (don’t ask me why, please! I’m just weird that way).

I spray one spritz onto the palm of my hand, add the extra fractionated coconut oil, and rub together between palms. I rub that directly onto the skin or pat onto clothes. If I have an extra empty small spray bottle, I’ll pour half the contents of a new bottle into the empty bottle so that I have two half bottles, then fill the rest of the way with oil or until desired dilution has been reached. In the end, the little bottle goes a long way for my family. I like to have a few bottles on hand, including one always in my diaper bag, to make sure that I have it when my family needs it.
